Stewart Downing believes the Hammers have enough about them to turn around the current run of poor results.

The former Liverpool winger made his return to first-team action after a month on the sidelines with a dead leg, but couldn’t prevent a disappointing 1-0 loss away to Hull City on Saturday.

But the 29-year-old is adamant the side’s luck will improve and it’s a only a matter of time before the squad begin to arrest the recent slump in results and get back on track for another top-ten Premier League finish.

He told whufc.com: “There will be a lot of people saying ‘They’ve lost games’ and you get the media outside saying ‘Look at them, they’re struggling’ and looking at the negatives, but inside we have to keep going what we’re doing, which is creating chances.

“We’ve proved we can beat the best and we can do again. We’re just having a little sticky spell. The pleasing thing is that we’re creating chances.

“It could be even worse if we weren’t, but we are.”

But, despite the disappointing result at the KC Stadium, Downing was understandably relieved to get back in action after his injury.

“Especially when we’re not winning games at the minute, I just wanted to get out there and help the lads,” he added.

“We’ve had a few injuries so it was nice to be back. I was obviously disappointed we didn’t get the result because we had plenty of chances and plenty of opportunities to get the goal.”

“That’s just our luck at the minute, but we have got to put things right.”
