Our January quest for a goalscorer has seen us reportedly bid £10million for Brentford’s Scott Hogan, with Sky Sports claiming that bid was swiftly rejected.

We wrote about the benefits of signing the 24-year-old earlier this week, with Hogan already netting 14 goals in the second-tier for the Bees this term.

With all of our strikers struggling to consistently find the back of the net this season – or even just keep themselves fit – it’s little wonder Bilic is searching for a proven goalscorer this January.

Hogan does represent an interesting prospect for us should we managed to convince Brentford to part ways with his signature, and some reports even claim the striker is desperate for a switch to happen before the month is up.

I have seen many fans complain that signing a striker currently performing in the Championship does not represent the ambition the club should have and that it’s a risk that could go the same way of Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri.

However, the club has had huge success with investment in Championship players in recent years – Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio are two examples of players making the step up and becoming indispensable at the club ever since.

A move for Hogan wouldn’t just be for the second half of this season in mind, either. At just 24, Hogan could go on to lead the line in claret and blue for many years to come. He is quick, prolific and is the kind of striker we haven’t had for many, many years.

So what do you think? Would Scott Hogan be a good signing for us this January? Vote in the poll below and have your say in the comments underneath…
