Declan Rice has turned down two new contract offers at the club, according to The Telegraph.
It’s the news that every West Ham fan was dreading this summer as interest from the likes of Chelsea and Man City continues to hang around like a bad smell.
But The Telegraph have reported that Rice has turned down two contract offers and has asked the club to keep him informed of any offers that come in for him.
Meanwhile, reliable club insider, ExWHUemployee, has confirmed the news on Twitter and explained that the club’s offers what not good enough, with Rice essentially looking for parity with one of the squad’s highest earners – Andriy Yarmolenko.
To every West Ham fan on the planet, those demands aren’t exactly unreasonable given the level at which Rice has been playing over the last couple of years and the impact he’s having on England’s current success at Euro 2020.
Put simply, if we want to convince one of the best young English talents to remain at the club on not push for a move to a bigger club, then we need to pay him what he’s worth. It seems, though, the club have tried to undermind his value and offer him well below what he’s more than capable of earning elsewhere.
It’s a shame, albeit unsurprising, and these Hammers fans on Twitter have been reacting to the news…
Wait so the “big bumper contract” that we’ve offered him is less than £100k a week. We’re run by clowns.

Insulting. Should be the best paid player at the club. We’ve shaved about £600k a week off the wage bill last few years. @davidgold and Sullivan make me sick

Disgrace, its as if they almost want to upset him so he asks for a move.
He should be the highest paid player at the club no question about it.
If they value him at £100 million pay then pay him accordingly.#GSBOUT— Richard64#GSBOUT (@RichardGSBOUT) July 1, 2021
I’d be surprised if he’s still with us at the start of the season. I’ve been concerned since he joined up with the Eng squad. He already seems different when you listen to interviews. I don’t mean this as a criticism. We can’t offer what his talent deserves in playing terms ☹️

#GSBOUT Absolutely DISGUSTING, this man has proved he’s not here for the money and is here for the club and heart. Make him our highest earner and give him what he wants. If you want the best for this club then everything should be done to secure this man. OUR CAPTAIN 🏴#41⚒

Insulting they even opened negotiations on less than our top earner. Classic GSB.

He needs to be on top money. Our captain, and a regular international, and his presence in the team shows how much we need him. Make him the top earner, simple.

This would be typical of our owners, want European football but only want a tin pot squad to have a go at it. Absolutely no ambition. Worst of all they know they will still fill the stadium because people don’t see through them.
