West Ham midfielder Alou Diarra has joined French Ligue 1 side Rennes on loan for the rest of the season.

The 31-year-old French midfielder only joined the club in the summer from Marseille, but a thigh injury had limited him to just six appearances in all competitions for the Hammers.

He had expressed his desire to leave earlier this month, claiming he had “wasted his time” by moving to East London and that a move to any club would be “better than here [West Ham].”

Diarra has not endured a good experience of Premier League football in his career, having previously spent three years between 2002 and 2005 at Liverpool without making a single first-team appearance.

Rennes will be the sixth top-flight French club Diarra, who has been capped 44 times by France, has played for during his career following spells at Le Havre, Bastia, Lens, Bordeaux and Marseille.
