West Ham announced the capture of Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes on Thursday evening.

The 23-year-old is a born and bred West Ham fan and has been speaking about how all his dreams have come true by signing for the Hammers.

Brentwood-born Downes is thought to be a direct replacement for Mark Noble, with David Moyes seemingly seeing the importance of replacing the legend’s love for the club with another player who equally knows what it means to represent the famous claret and blue.

Another player at the club who knows just what it means, despite not being a West Ham fan from birth, is Declan Rice.

His rise from academy prospect to one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the world has been sensational, and he is now expected to take the captain’s armband following Noble’s retirement.

And Rice was quick to react to the arrival of his new midfield partner.

The England international took to Instagram to leave a single emoji underneath the official announcement of Downes signing from Swansea – a face with love hearts for eyes…

It’s clear the main man is a big fan of Downes and is looking forward to welcoming him to the club when they both return to pre-season training – as well as playing alongside him throughout the 22/23 season.
