West Ham United’s joint chairman David Gold appeared on talkSPORT yesterday to discuss the transfer situation in East London.
During the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast radio show, David Gold played down rumours which linked West Ham with a move for Jack Wilshere.
Jack Wilshere is likely to be available for transfer this summer.
If promised a fully fit Jack Wilshere, a number of Premier League clubs would undoubtedly be pursuing a deal.
However, Arsenal may have difficulty trying to offload the left-footed central midfielder, who has bags of talent but is incredibly injury-prone.
The 25-year-old spent last year on loan at Bournemouth but ended the season injured yet again, which has hampered his progress.
David Gold responded to West Ham’s links with the England international, claiming that bolstering the midfield is not a priority.
The Hammers currently have a number of good central midfielders on their books.
Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang are all expected to compete for the two or three central midfield spots in the Hammers’ starting line-up while the likes of Edimilson Fernandes and Josh Cullen are knocking on the door in that position too.
While Gold recognises that Wilshere is a good player, he has stressed that buying strikers will be West Ham’s priority this summer.
