West Ham United star Michail Antonio was rewarded for his fantastic season by being named Hammer of the Year 2017 last night at the annual awards.

The West Ham winger, who is currently out injured, scooped the top prize ahead of Pedro Obiang and Manuel Lanzini.

Antonio’s fine form this season has also seen him receive two call-ups for the England national squad, although he is yet to make his debut for the Three Lions.

However, there have been worrying reports in the media in recent weeks suggesting that contract talks with Antonio have stalled.

With January newcomers Robert Snodgrass and Jose Fonte reportedly earning double the salary of Michail Antonio, the former Nottingham Forest wide man was less than impressed.

However, West Ham owner David Gold eased the minds of West Ham fans on social media with a confident message.

Gold tweeted that Michail Antonio is “close” to agreeing a new contract to commit his future to the Hammers.

The fans’ favourite has been instrumental in West Ham’s success over the past two years and Hammers fans will be delighted to see him offered a better deal.
