Could this be West Ham’s ‘record’ summer signing?

It’s being reported that the club are lining up a club record transfer this summer.

Jason Burt of the Telegraph wrote earlier this week that the board have even discussed spending £30million on one player.

So I suppose it’s no surprise to see that we’re being linked with Roma’s Mattia Destro today.

The Italy international failed to impress on loan at AC Milan during the second half of the season, which prevented him from earning a permanent move to the Serie A giants.

Such form also appears to have ended interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea, who were linked with a £20million move for the striker back in December.

So now he’s being linked with a move to West Ham, while Crystal Palace are also keen on bringing him to London.

The pull of Europa League football might swing a potential move in our favour, though Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg and Italin side Fiorentina are also interested.

There’s no doubting that signing the Italian would be a huge coup for the club, and reports at the moment are hinting that he might well be the big name signing the board are promising the fans this summer.

  1. The thought of needing the Europa League to beat Crystal Palace to a big signing is somewhat sureal to my mind.
