Carlton Cole was pleased to have been given the opportunity to help the Hammers towards a rare point at Anfield on Sunday.

The forward has been second choice to Andy Carroll for the best part of the season and has had to make do with the odd appearance off the bench in recent weeks.

But he happy to be able to come in for the ineligible Carroll at Anfield and insists he’ll always be ready when called upon, despite spending weeks on the sidelines.

He told whufc.com: “I was happy with my performance, considering I hadn’t played for a quite a while and I’m not match sharp.

“I’m a fit lad though and I can do a 90 [minutes] if called upon at any time so hopefully I can get more 90s under my belt between now and the end of the season.

“At the end of the day, if you come in and you haven’t been looking after yourself, you’re only hurting yourself and your teammates. I’ve done my utmost to keep myself in shape.”

And he was happy with the point gained at Liverpool, even though he couldn’t find the net, and believes it was Allardyce’s tactics that worked wonders for the team on the day.

“I would love to have scored a goal, but this was the first result I’ve got up there in a long while, so I’m very happy,” he continued.

“Liverpool are a great outfit, everyone knows that. So to go up there, especially with our away form not being too great, and do the job we did was good.

“We stuck to the manager’s tactics and what he has asked us to do, and I think he’s very happy with what we achieved on Sunday.”
