The club has pencilled in the home match against Sunderland in December as the game in which they hope Andy Carroll will make his long-awaited return from injury, according to MirrorFootball.

The club-record signing has been sidelined with a heel injury since making his loan move permanent in the summer and was initially expected to return to first-team action against Chelsea next Saturday, but a stomach virus ended all hope of that happening.

But after making further progress from his latest injury setback, it is believed the 24-year-old striker will feature in the Premier League fixture over the Black Cats at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday 14 December.

Carroll scored seven goals in 24 Premier League appearances for the Hammers last season.
