Andy Carroll could miss Saturday’s away clash with Southampton due to a virus, according to the Express.
The 24-year-old was hoping to return to action after missing the 0-0 draw at parent club Liverpool last Sunday to the terms of his loan agreement.
But a virus has prevented him from training all week and he now has a 50/50 chance of building on his two goal display at home to West Brom two weeks ago.
Sam Allardyce and his medical staff are expected to make a decision on his fitness and availability on Friday before deciding whether he should travel with the squad to Southampton.
