West Ham’s striker situation? Let’s be honest — it’s a mess.
Mohammed Kudus is gone, snapped up by Spurs (and yes, that still stings). Evan Ferguson vanished back to Brighton after a loan spell that barely made a dent. Michail Antonio, forever a club icon, is struggling with injuries and wear — not helped by the aftermath of his recent car crash.
And Niclas Füllkrug? Well, injuries haven’t helped, but let’s just say that if he left, fans would barely notice.
It’s no surprise, then, that the club are reportedly close to sealing a move for Callum Wilson — the experienced Newcastle United striker who’s reportedly agreed terms in principle with the Hammers.
On paper, it makes sense. Wilson has banged in 88 Premier League goals, and scored 12 times in just 16 matches against West Ham. But not everyone is convinced.
Cole Expresses Wilson Concerns

One voice of caution? Carlton Cole — a West Ham legend and the club’s fifth-highest Premier League scorer of all time with 40 goals.
Speaking on talkSPORT, per Hammers News, Cole explained why he’s not sold on the idea of bringing Wilson to the London Stadium, despite his proven top-flight record.
“I like Callum Wilson when he’s fit, but how many times is he fit?” Cole said. “Can he maintain [the required fitness levels]? That is the biggest problem. Yes, we do need a striker but how desperate are we to get a striker in?”
Instead, Cole suggested West Ham should target someone younger — ideally a forward who can grow with the squad and work alongside Jarrod Bowen.
“Look, he’s a good player. He’s a good player. But is it what Graham Potter wants? If it’s what Graham Potter wants, then I will go with it,” he said.
Our take? Wilson could be a smart short-term fix — especially if the price is right. But if West Ham are building for the future under Potter, Cole may have a point.
Let’s see how this one plays out.
