West Ham have secured the loan signing of Roma striker Marco Borriello until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old becomes the second Italian to sign for the Hammers today following the arrival of AC Milan’s Antonio Nocerino in a similar loan move.

Borriello began his career at AC Milan in 2002, scoring 18 goals in 54 appearances until 2010, while also enjoying loan spells five other Italian clubs.

In August 2010 he joined Roma in a free transfer and has since had loan spells with Juventus and Genoa.

Borriello’s experience will vital to West Ham’s Premier League survival chances and Allardyce will see him as the perfect man to help ease the pressure and expectation laid upon club-record signing Andy Carroll.
