West Ham United have been linked with Henry Onyekuru for a while now and the deal has been progressing slowly.

And now the Hammers could be in danger of missing out.

Championship outfit Birmingham City have launched an audacious swoop to try to sign Henry Onyekuru, according to The Daily Mail.

The Blues, who are managed by former West Ham boss Harry Redknapp, only escaped relegation to League One by two points on the final day last season.

However, they are still being ambitious in the transfer market and want to gazump West Ham to land our top target.

The Nigerian international netted 25 goals for lower-mid-table side KAS Eupen in the top division of Belgian football last year.

Able to play as a winger or as a striker, the 20-year-old is one of the hottest young talents in European football right now and West Ham have been scrapping it out with the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle for his signature.

No one, however, would have anticipated that it would be a battle between West Ham and Birmingham City for Onyekuru.

Whether the talented youngster would drop down to the Championship remains to be seen and he seems keen on a switch to East London so hopefully we can wrap this deal up quickly before Birmingham can secure their £7.5m deal.
