Sam Allardyce has expressed his delight at how his pre-season preparations are going after the Hammers recorded their fourth consecutive friendly victory at Colchester United last night.

Goals from Joe Cole and James Collins saw off the U’s at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, making it four wins from four so far this summer and setting the side up nicely for their ten-day tour of Germany.

And Allardyce was content with the way the game went and is pleased with the way his players are progressing in their preparations for the 2013/2014 Premier League season.

He told whufc.com: “It was a good workout for us, because Colchester are a couple of weeks ahead of where we are with the season starting earlier, so you could expect we would get a physical game.

“The wins, draws or losses mean nothing to what the season will entail. It means nothing to what the first Premier League game will be.

“We are looking very good, even at this early stage, so I just hope we can keep it up in Germany.”

And Allardyce is focused on making sure his players reach maximum fitness in time for the opening day home fixture against Cardiff City on 17 August.

“What is the most important thing is that on 17 August, everyone is 100 per cent fir, not 90 per cent or 95 per cent fit,” he added.

“So that they can hit the ground running and we can get off to what we hope can be a fabulous start to the season like we had last year.”
