Co-Chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan appear to have handed Sam Allardyce the dreaded vote of confidence following the Hammers’ 5-0 thumping at the hands of Championship side Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round.

With no Premier League win since the end of November and currently sitting 19th in the Premier League, Allardyce’s position as West Ham manager has come under severe pressure and a large proportion of fans have been calling for his immediate sacking in recent weeks.

But Gold and Sullivan have suggested Allardyce is still the man they believe can turn things around at Upton Park via an open letter to fans via the official website.

Their letter read: “Sam has been handed a near impossible task of coming through three crucial games in the space of six days with a squad of only 14 fit and available senior players.

“This is not an excuse, it is a fact. We know Sam has not lost his ambition or desire and is committed to making West Ham United a great Premier League club.

“Make no mistake, though; we are under no illusions as to the seriousness of our current predicament in the Premier League. We have experienced difficult times before and we know what will get us results – hard work, determination and perseverance.

“To that end, we are all working round the clock to do everything in our powers to help our arrest our slump in form.”

But the fans are still not convinced that Allardyce is the right man to take the club forward, with some taking to Twitter to suggest it was merely the dreaded vote of confidence that could lead to his dismissal if he cannot lead his side to victory away to Cardiff City on Saturday…
