Plenty of changes are expected at West Ham this summer but experienced Spain stopper Adrian is hoping he’ll be given his chance to shine.
The 31-year-old spent the majority of last season as understudy to Joe Hart, on-loan from Manchester City, but forced his way into the side on a number of occasions.
However, it’s widely expected that one of Manuel Pellegrini’s first tasks at West Ham will be to identify a new first-choice stopper in the transfer market – although Adrian is hoping he can make an impression.
Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
“I like to play, I like to enjoy playing and I want to be the No1, but I have to deserve it as well.”
“If the team can help you with their defending as well, that’s much better. This past season for me has been a bit disappointing and frustrating at times, but I have one more year on my contract and we will see more when the season has finished.”
“I hope that I can continue to show I am here to help West Ham, as I enjoy it here at London Stadium and I want to keep enjoying it.”
Adrian has been linked with a return to Spanish football this summer, with high-flying Real Betis eyeing his services, but Pellegrini will have the final say on his future.
