A less obvious player from each Euro 2016 nation West Ham should target

With Euro 2016 soon to be upon us, the media will no doubt be raving about the superstars, the goalscorers and the expected heroes.

But the tournament is not a tournament without all the players – 552 of them to be exact, coming from 24 different nations.

Here I urge West Ham to keep their tabs on some of the underrated stars of Euro 2016 and offer one from each nation to watch in particular…

Albania: Elseid Hysaj

Napoli’s right back is one of Albania’s key players as they enter the European Championships as significant underdogs.

Still aged only 22, he regularly starts for the Italian giants and would be a perfect fit for our vacant right-back position.

Austria: Zlatko Junuzovic

Diminutive attacking midfielder Junuzovic stokes excitement amongst the Werder Bremen fans with his endless running and set-piece expertise.

The 28-year-old is certainly one to look out for in the future.

Belgium: Michy Batshuayi

He could prove to be expensive but he is right towards the top of West Ham’s striker targets.

The 22-year-old has impressed at Marseille and is open to a move to England, where Tottenham also want him.

Croatia: Marko Rog

Alongside Ante Coric, Marko Rog is a young exciting prospect at Dinamo Zagreb.

The 20-year-old can play in defence or midfield and has been interesting Liverpool in recent times.

Czech Republic: Pavel Kaderabek

A right back who we have looked at before, Kaderabek is one of Czech Republic’s key players.

The Hoffenheim defender is a hot property to look out for at this year’s Championships.

England: Jamie Vardy

Reports recently have suggested that West Ham are trying to trigger Vardy’s £25m release clause.

It would be an audacious and risky move – Vardy is not exactly young or cheap.

France: Samuel Umtiti

West Ham are leading the race to sign France defender Umtiti, according to Sky Sports.

The 22-year-old has been very impressive for Lyon and is comfortable at centre back or left back.

Germany: Shkodran Mustafi

Valencia’s 24-year-old centre back has always fancied playing in England but it never worked out at Everton.

Since then he has gone on to become a fine defender and would be a perfect fit for West Ham.

Hungary: Balazs Dzsudzsak

The 29-year-old is by far Hungary’s best player and is punching below his weight at Bursaspor.

Perhaps the promise of European football and Premier League could tempt him to East London for next season.

Iceland: Alfred Finnbogason

West Ham were linked with Finnbogason in the past and he could be a good back-up option.

After playing for both Real Sociedad and Augsburg last year, the 27-year-old has scored in the top division of seven different countries. Perhaps he fancies making that eight?

Italy: Stephan El Shaarawy

The 23-year-old has failed to live up to the heights that his early career promised.

But he seems to be back in form and he would be a good option for West Ham to take a punt on.

Northern Ireland: Paddy McNair

McNair can play centre back, right back or in midfield and has operated in all those positions for both Manchester United and Northern Ireland.

Mourinho might not fancy him but at 21, so West Ham might not be a bad shout.

Poland: Arkadiusz Milik

Robert Lewandowski’s lesser known strike partner Milik scored 21 league goals for Ajax last season and is too good for the Eredivisie.

The 22-year-old is a big centre forward with a great left foot and would be an ideal fit at West Ham.

Portugal: Rafa Silva

23-year-old Rafa Silva is a hot prospect and the Braga attacking midfielder looks set to be a future star.

His agent has previously hinted that Silva would like to move to the Premier League so perhaps a move to West Ham could be on.

Republic of Ireland: Wes Hoolahan

The Irish playmaker could be available on the cheap after Norwich were relegated.

The concern is his age (34) but he could be a relatively useful squad player.

Romania: Nicolae Stanciu

Steaua Bucharest attacking midfielder Stanciu is probably Romania’s biggest threat at the Euros.

Aged just 23 he already has over 100 appearances for the Romanian club and has three goals in his four national appearances.

Russia: Artem Dzyuba

Russia’s main man up front, Dzyuba is a 27-year-old who is at Zenit.

He might not be cheap but he would probably guarantee goals if he takes to the Premier League.

Slovakia: Ondrej Duda

Slovakia’s young star Ondrej Duda is a 21-year-old attacking midfielder nicknamed Dudinho for his Brazilian-style skills.

A good Euro campaign should secure him a move from Legia Warsaw with West Ham a viable option.

Spain: Lucas Vazquez

Still a fringe player at Spanish giants Real Madrid, Vazquez might be a reasonable loan target for us.

The 24-year-old winger is a very exciting prospect and Real will be reluctant to let him go.

Sweden: Victor Lindelof

Benfica’s 21-year-old centre half is heralded as one of the finest young talents in European football.

He has Champions League experience already and looks like a real gem in defence.

Switzerland: Breel Embolo

One of Europe’s hottest properties, Embolo has been on our radar in the past.

The 19-year-old is comfortable up front or out wide and could leave Basel this summer.

Turkey: Gokhan Gonul

This 31-year-old is reportedly a top target this summer for West Ham. The Fenerbahce right back is admired by Bilic from his time in Turkey.

Ukraine: Andriy Yarmolenko

Expect Yarmolenko to be one of the stars of the tournament.

He would not be a cheap option but the 26-year-old needs to move from Dynamo Kiev and we can offer him European football.

Wales: Ashley Richards

Ashley “Jazz” Richards failed to break through into the Swansea team but has since impressed at Championship club Fulham.

Maybe the 25-year-old is ready to return to the Premier League and push Sam Byram for a starting spot.
