Five Hammers who could follow Cresswell and get an England call-up in the next 5 years

West Ham United left back Aaron Cresswell is in the England squad for their upcoming games in June.

England face Scotland in a World Cup qualifier and France in an international friendly in the middle of this month.

Cresswell has received the call-up due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Danny Rose despite not being in great form.

The former Ipswich man has struggled a bit since his return from injury but hopefully the international call-up will restore some confidence for the former Hammer of the Year.

While he will be back up to Ryan Bertrand, Cresswell could be handed his second international cap during these two games.

The 27-year-old could come up against team mate Robert Snodgrass (Scotland) or former team mate Dimitri Payet (France).

Following Cresswell’s place in the England senior squad, we look at five English West Ham players who should be targeting call-ups to the national squad in the next five years.

Michail Antonio

The most obvious England candidate is the current Hammer of the Year Michail Antonio who would probably be in the current England squad if not for injury.

The speedy, physical winger is an improvement on Gareth Southgate’s current winger options and would hope for his senior debut soon.

Andy Carroll

If Andy Carroll can stay fit for a lengthy period of time, an England call-up has to be his priority.

The 6’4” striker is arguably among the most effective in the world at what he does, which is bully defenders and win headers, and England could benefit from having that alternative option up top.

Sam Byram

While Sam Byram is currently some way off an England call-up, if he can continue to progress over the next three to five years, he should have his sights set on a place in Southgate’s squad.

Right back is a notorious problem position at both West Ham and England and the 23-year-old could be the long-term solution for both if he fulfils his potential.

Reece Oxford

Since bursting onto the scene aged 16, Reece Oxford’s progress has slowed somewhat and he endured a frustrating loan spell at Reading.

The 18-year-old centre half, who can also play in midfield, is still considered to be one of the countries hottest prospects and the current England under-19 international will be targeting the senior squad in the not so distant future.

Reece Burke

Like his defensive partner Reece Oxford, Reece Burke has had a frustrating season on loan in the Championship but Burke has been halted by injuries.

The 20-year-old is still considered a top defensive talent, though, and he could develop into an international player.
