The club have confirmed that Reece Oxford has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract to finally end speculation of his immediate future.

The 18-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United and Manchester City over the last few months, but the wonderkid has opted to stay at the club to try to “follow in the footsteps of the likes of Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand.”

Of course it’s great that Oxford wasn’t tempted to move to a bigger club like Man United, but the biggest thing about this is that Oxford truly believes West Ham is the only place he feels he can continue to improve as a footballer and become a world class talent.

That speaks volumes of where this club is at in terms of stature, ambition and reputation and, with young players like Oxford in the squad, we can continue our proud tradition of nurturing home-grown talent in to world class superstars, as well as always having a local lad in the first team.
