Last week’s win at Palace was, as the old cliche goes, a breath of fresh air.
Passing on the floor, running at defenders, two top drawer goals, Carlton Cole scoring, organisation, three points. It had absolutely everything and was a glimpse of the new philosophy Allardyce is trying to, or rather being forced to, adopt at the club.
The Sheffield United result in the week was a blip, I feel, and a game that we would have won handsomely on another night. It just wasn’t to be.
But today we have the chance to make it back-to-back Premier League wins and build on what has been a good start to new league campaign.
We may have six first team players injured, but I can’t see that being too much of a problem for Allardyce, with most of the sidelined players either ineffective or have been injured all season anyway.
So here’s how I think we’ll line up against Southampton this afternoon…
