West Ham have enquired about the possibility of signing former Stoke City midfielder Rory Delap, according to SportsDirect News.

The 36-year-old was released by Stoke at the end of last season and, after spending half of the campaign on loan to Championship club Barnsley, admitted he would like to make his stay with the Tykes permanent.

But is it thought Delap, famed for his ‘bullet-like’ throw-ins, would prefer a move to London should an offer come in, while Hammers manager Sam Allardyce sees him as the type of player who would add an extra dimension to his side’s attacking play next season.

A source close to Stoke told SDN: “West Ham have made an initial enquiry but so far that’s all there is to it.

“Rory is no longer a 90-minute player in Premier League terms but he would fit into Sam’s style of play and could have a big impact when West Ham are chasing a goal.”
