David Gold expects West Ham to improve on last seasons 10th place Premier League finish and admits he is delighted with the progress the club has made in such a short space of time.

The co-owner believes another top-ten finish is achievable and that Sam Allardyce has the resources at his disposal to ensure it is achieved in the top-flight next season.

And he also feels the club will only continue to improve in the near future and believes the Hammers’ recent achievements, both on and off the field, backs up its ambition.

He told Sports Direct News: “I think to have been relegated, returned and finish tenth is a massive achievement for this club and now we are ready to push on again.

“We are an ambitious club, which is getting to where we want to be quite quickly and that’s great.

“In every walk of life you need to get better year-on-year and thus a minimum of ninth would my default position. I think that, or higher, is within our abilities because I think we are assembling a very good squad.”

And Gold has confirmed that everything is being done behind the scenes to ensure Sam Allardyce’s squad is as strong as possible before the start of the 2013/2014 Premier League season, revealing that bringing in another striker is his priority.

“We are working on bringing in another right sided striker and we want a number two to Andy Carroll,” Gold added.

“Not a day goes by when we are not working on things and the manager has many irons in the fire.

“Wherever I look in the squad I see strength and when we get the striker situation sorte we’ll be in a very good place.”
